Special Areas #2 is a rural municipality with many amenities including a
well kept campground and playground areas known for birding, boating,
fishing, golfing, swimming and camping.
In 1909 coal mines were started in Special Areas #3. The Sheerness
plant produces enough energy each year to supply electricity to about
800,000 households.
Agriculturally oriented,
the Special Areas rolling countryside is dotted with family farms and
ranches. Special Areas #4 also hosts numerous
historical sites such as the Royal North West Mounted Police Outpost
Cairn, Signing of Treaty #6 Cairn, the Big Gap Roundup Cairn, plus
points of interest including a Rock Effigy (of a man), Indian Ceremonial
Grounds and tipi rings which landowner permission is required. The mystical Mud Buttes (located south of
Monitor) and the legendary Neutral Hills which were the neutral hunting
grounds between the Blackfoot and the Cree Indians are located approximately
